Wendell was my best friend at the VA, we shared lots of stories and food receipes. He loved my Holupki, homemade wine and Buttermilk Pies. He became a great friend to my son over the summer when my son volunteered all summer at the VA Hospital. Our loss is nothing compared to that of the family, my heart and prayers are with you all. See you one day my friend! Carol

I’m so sorry for your loss. Wendell was always so nice and fun to be around at work. He always made me laugh. He was always very willing to help me with anything that i needed help with, protective of me, and always there for me when i needed a friend. He never said one cross word to me. There was a group of us that hung out at work, and he made all of us laugh. He will truly be missed at work. He made work easier to get through every day and made it a little more bearable.

Wendell was widely known and unanimously loved at the VA Hospital, where he worked. Although I have known him casually for years, just last week, he handed me his official business card because he had volunteered to help me with an issue I was having. When I got back to my office and looked at his card, I could not help but smile when I noticed that he had given himself the title of “King of Property.” That was just like Wendell…to find a way to be funny and spread cheer even within the rather formal confines of the government system. His warm smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

Wendell aka “Sam” was my neighbor growing up. He was one of the smartest in our class. I have many stories, but to mention just a few…when I was about 3 years old Sam met me at the back fence and said “Hi Girlfriend”…his mother Laura always told this story. He also rolled me through a field in an old barrel because I was dumb enough to let him. I witnessed Sam hiding from this father on the roof of his house more than once when he was in trouble…;> Great hiding place by the way. He also blew up a battery in chemistry class and many other things in his backyard. He was a great guy not to mention entertaining. I know Sam is at peace with our Lord. I pray for peace and comfort for his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace Sam…

The only thing that comes to mind is..wow, I can not believe what I am reading. I have so many childhood memories of Sam and like you Jeanna, I remember him “hiding” on the roof more then once. Sam would always walk with me down the fence on my way home and just joke about alot of things. My prayers are with Laura and the rest of the family.

I thank GOD that I had the opportunity to know Wendell. He was always kind to me, and he liked to tell me corny and funny tales. He was a nice, cool guy. My words of comfort to his Mother and family:

He will swallow up death in victory: and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces. Isaiah 25 vs. undefined God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.
    Psalm 49 vs. 15
May the Grace of our LORD and Saviour be with you all.

Wendell was one of the first people I met when I started working at the VA. We would talk while riding the bus to or from work. A truely happy, kind, and wonderfuil man, he always seemed to be at peace with the gifts God had given him and would have an encouraging word when needed. Although I did not know him away from work he was the kind of person that I would have liked to have known as a friend.

Wendell was a great co-worker and friend. He helped Biomed on more than one occasion. His quick response and work ethic was extremely helpful to me personally and to this shop. I was fortunate to be able to know him a little better than most while giving him a ride into work this past winter. Great sense of humor, hard worker, good friend. My sympathy to Wendell’s family and friends.

Wendell was such a wonderful guy to work with. I loved going on EOC rounds with him, he knew the hospital so well and we got our rounds done very quickly. We would joke around and make each other laugh the entire time. I always looked forward to Monday afternoons so I could meet with my buddy Wendell.
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden death. Wendell you will be missed greatly.

Wendell was a very energetic person and did so much for many people. I am glad I got to know him and work with him. Hold on to the Memories and the love. They will be with you forever. The Lord calls his children home at any time even when we aren’t ready for them to leave. Hear his voice in the wind, see his face in the distance and know he is there to watch over you and protect you. Take care and look to your heart and the Lord for the comfort of your loved one. I just found out about Sam today. IGÇÖm really sorry for the loss to his family and friends; you have my condolences and sympathy. Sam and I went through the Army together from basic training until the end of our 3 year commitment in 1987 and I havenGÇÖt seen or spoke to Sam since then. I had the pleasure of getting to know him like a brother. IGÇÖm not surprised to see he was being generous, positive and helping people. I canGÇÖt count the times Sam was there to help me out through good and bad times. Sam was a big influence on me and IGÇÖm a better person for knowing him. Sam definitely taught me a lot about really living and taking life as it came. I could share a lot of great stories that would crack everyone up but this isnGÇÖt the place for that. Sam was one of only a few people in my life that IGÇÖve called friend.IGÇÖd like to know more about what became of Sam after the Army. I came across this website searching for him to try and catch up. “King of the Property” Sounds like Sam alright.
    Thanks Sam!!

7-20-17 I found out by accident yesterday about his passing. I met him in the Army, along with Jim Hensley, when we were in what they call a cohert platoon in the mid eighties. He was fun to hang around with back then, and I’ve thought a lot about him and our platoon over the years. We thought it was funny, when the drill sergeant would scream, ordering him to state his name, and he would answer loudly, “Noe, Sergeant! ” That drill instructor would get a mad, crazy look on his face, as we’d hope to heck we didn’t start grinning about it, or we’d have to do some more push ups. I sure am sad to hear that wild, cantankerous old buddy is gone; I pray that I get to see our comrade in arms again, one day. Das bedanya, comrade!
